Snow Storm Part 3 - Feb. 18 to 20

We had another snow storm before the weekend. Initially, they were calling for 8 to 12 inches of snow from Thursday (2/18) to Saturday (2/20).

Thursday came and snow was falling in the morning but it's not accumulating. The kids school was open on that day but some of the schools in the Philadelphia area were closed. In the afternoon, the snow stopped and we've checked the forecast and the snow storm was downgraded and has been changed to 3 to 6 inches but with winds of 40 to 60 mph. The forecast said that we'll basically see 1 to 3 inches on the ground after the wind blows the snow away.

Before going to bed, I still didn't see any snow accumulation. I got up sometime after midnight and I see some snow starting to accumulate but the wind is blowing it around. On Friday morning, the snow was still falling and with heavy winds. Here are some pictures around the house on Friday morning.

Not much accumulation. The previous pile of snow got melted after a couple of rainy days.
It didn't take me long to shovel my driveway and walkway. The highest snow accumulation is about 3 inches and those are near my garage door. The rest of my driveway only has about an inch or two.
Our deck has the most snow. It seems that the wind blew it there.
The kids playground looks ok.
Our patio didn't get much because the wind blew it away.

All in all, we got spared. The northern part of the East Coast got the most snow and I believe it's about a foot and a half to 2 feet. We just can't wait for spring and summer these days. I am also tired of shoveling but the kids want to play with snow.

I found this school activity made by Daniel last year. Here's a happy snowman with snow falling around him.

Snow Storm Part 2 - Feb. 10 to 11, 2010

We experienced the 2nd Snow Storm during the week. We got about a foot and a half more snow. Here are some pictures before, during and after the 2nd storm.

Shoveling some snow to create a mound so the kids can use their sled.
Daniel tries to use his sled.
After a few runs, having some fun now.
Added more snow on top of the mound.

Now, here are pictures of the storm on Wednesday (2/10) morning while the snow is falling hard.

Here are some pictures the next day (2/11). It was a sunny day and the snow is starting to melt.

Cleaned up part of the driveway on Wednesday afternoon and added more snow on the mound where the kids were sledding.
The kids don't want to stop sledding.

Thursday afternoon pictures.

The snow/ice on the driveway are gone.
The mound is still there. Maybe a couple more days of sledding.
The shoveled snow is way above my waste bin.
Also, only 1 lane on the road has been plowed.
Haven't cleaned the deck yet. I'll just let it melt.
Snow slowly melting on the playground.
Snow on patio may take some time to melt since this side of the house doesn't get much sunlight.
The weather forecast is calling for another snow storm on Monday. They're saying that it's not as strong as the last 2 but there might be a little accumulation.

Snow Storm - Feb. 5 to 6, 2010

The Northeast had been hit by a snow storm over the weekend and we're one of those who got a lot of snow during that time. It may not be a lot compared to other areas in the Northern U.S. or Canada or anywhere else in the world but this one is a lot of snow in the area.

I have taken a several pictures around my house and in the area.

Here's my kids playground on Saturday morning (2/6)
Daniel's bird feeder is on the left.

Measuring the amount of snow with a yard stick.
I should have parked both cars on the other side of our driveway so the snow accumulation is on the yard. The winds brought the snow on the driveway and the cars were blocking the winds, thus snow accumulation.
Here's a closer look (about 2 feet of snow)
Here's the amount of snow at the bottom of our driveway. The road has been plowed so several snow had been added for me to shovel.... ugh. My back hurts now.
It's about 2 1/2 feet
I'm thinking of putting the snow beside our mailbox to cover it up. :)

I went out on Sunday (2/7/2010) to get something from Safeway and I took the back roads thinking that the snow plows cleared the snow already. Big mistake.

Only 1 car can pass at a time and the road is not fully plowed. It appears that the brine solution hasn't been added on the road.

My kid's school appear to have been plowed well.
The main road is much better. My neck hurt after bobbling so much while driving through the snow.
Safeway parking lot.
The amount of snow are way high up. I'm wondering if they hid a car or truck underneath it.
Looking up on the pile of snow.
The kids had fun on the snow. My body/back hurt so much from shoveling snow. It's a good workout though. Haven't had this kind of workout for a long time.

We're having a part 2 of the storm starting tonight and weather forecasts are saying that we're getting a lot tomorrow. I'll share more pictures on tomorrow's snow storm or it might be a blizzard... let's wait and see.
